Why can't I transfer my NFTs between wallets directly?

I've been trying to transfer my NFTs from one wallet to another for days now, but I can't seem to make it work. I didn't realize you couldn't always transfer NFTs directly wallet-to-wallet. Can anyone explain why that's the case and how I can successfully transfer my NFTs using a marketplace like Tradeport?

If you are facing any difficulties, just remember to connect the recipient address with Tradeport as the last step. This approach worked perfectly for others who struggled with direct wallet transfers. If you have more questions, feel free to ask!

Hey there! You can transfer NFTs through a marketplace like Tradeport. Depending on the type of NFT, not all can be transferred from wallet to wallet directly. No problem, just connect the wallet with the NFT to Tradeport, select the NFT you want to transfer from your items, and transfer it to the address you want to send it to. Then connect the recipient address with Tradeport and claim it.

You might be struggling to transfer NFTs directly between wallets on Sui because some NFTs are designed with restrictions, like being non-transferable or requiring specific permissions, depending on how their smart contracts are coded, and Sui’s object-centric model can add complexity if the NFT is tied to another object or lacks a direct transfer function. For example, certain NFTs, like those with soulbound properties or custom transfer logic in their Move modules, can only be moved through specific methods defined by their creators, not via standard wallet-to-wallet transfers. Additionally, if the NFT is stored in a marketplace or a contract-controlled object, you need to interact with that contract, which might not allow direct transfers without going through a platform like Tradeport. To transfer your NFT using Tradeport, first ensure both your source and recipient wallets (e.g., Sui Wallet or OKX Wallet) are compatible with Sui and connected to Tradeport. Log into Tradeport, connect your source wallet, and navigate to your NFT collection under the “Items” tab. Select the NFT you want to transfer, click “Transfer,” and enter the recipient’s Sui wallet address—double-check it, as sending to the wrong address is irreversible. Confirm the transaction, paying the gas fee (typically around 0.01 SUI, so ensure your wallet has enough SUI). On the recipient’s end, connect their wallet to Tradeport and claim the NFT from the “Received” or “Pending” section. If the transfer fails, verify the NFT’s transferability by checking its module on Sui Explorer or the marketplace’s documentation, as some NFTs may require specific actions like unlocking or marketplace approval. Test the process on Sui’s testnet if possible to avoid losing assets, and ensure your wallet is updated to avoid UI glitches.
