Sui wallet updated, now can't login with password

I updated my old Sui wallet to the latest version, but now when I enter my password, I get a warning to reload the app and the app freezes. What can I do to resolve this issue without losing access?

Hey there, that's a common, frustrating issue with wallet updates! It usually points to corrupted cache or local storage. First, try clearing your browser's cache and local storage specifically for the Sui Wallet extension. You can usually find this under your browser's extension settings or privacy settings, looking for something like 'Manage extension data.' If that doesn't work, try completely reinstalling the Sui Wallet extension. Make absolutely sure you have your 12-word seed phrase backed up before uninstalling, then you can use it to restore your wallet after the fresh install. Your keys should be safe; it's almost always an issue with the app's local data state. Hope this helps you get back in!

If your SUI Wallet freezes after updating and entering your password:

  1. Clear cache/storage or reinstall the app (don’t delete your recovery phrase).
  2. Try using incognito mode (desktop) or another device/browser.
  3. If still stuck, use your recovery phrase in another wallet like Fewcha or Nightly —your funds are safe.

Hey, that's annoying! First, and this is crucial, make absolutely sure you have your seed phrase backed up and confirmed. Seriously, do that first! Then, try clearing your browser's cache and local storage for the Sui wallet. If it's still stuck, a full uninstall and reinstall of the extension usually solves it; you'll just use your seed phrase to restore your wallet.

One potential solution is to uninstall and then reinstall the app. However, it's crucial to ensure you have your passphrase or private key backed up before doing so. If you have the passphrase, you're in a good position to recover your wallet. If you haven't backed up your private key, having the passphrase can still help you recover your wallet. Make sure to secure any backup options you might have.
